Strange Types & Odd Sorts

I shot the cover for this wonderful new publication from Fighting Words in collaboration with the National Print Museum Ireland.

A team of Fighting Words mentors worked with volunteer compositors and printers from the National Print Museum to document memories of lives lived in apprenticeships, jobbing houses, newspapers, binderies, and a now utterly transformed world of printing.

The cover shot is made up of wood block type set on compositing sticks, which was then set in a form and placed on a Vandercook press to print the dust jacket for the publication.

The book was designed by Philip Elliot, with Mary Plunkett designing and setting the type for the cover.
